misconseptions

Today, I learned about a couple of misconseptions about Psychology. For instance, one of the miscomceptions would be the sci-fi of crime dramas. They really dont help solve crimes as much as they make them out to be. Another misconception would be that it isnt real science. Sure, there are limitations but it goes on the same guidelines. Also people like to think that the practice is thhe doctor listening to someone on the couch ramble on about their problems while the doctor scribbles his symptoms. This is only one of their methods and it is horridly over exposed on television. People may think that it is just common sense but as I said before there is science involved. This leads to the next issue which is that people only need a bachelors to practice psychology. The reality is that in most states you need a doctorate which on average takes seven years.

Today I learned about the dark side of psychology.

One of the dark sides of  psychology is the "Shadow aspect".  It is basically the side of a persons personality that people ignore because they don't want to identify this as a part of themselves. Another name for it is the Jungian Shadow. Another one of the dark sides is the tyranny of positives which is too many positive aspect of psychology. Unlike the shadow aspect people know its there but they do not want to identify themselves with it and only want the good side.
Another dark side is essentially peer pressure. When people re in groups they will sometimes tend to do the same thing that the group does even if they know it isn't right. I they were by themselves they would act like themselves. Logic versus feelings or as the experiment was called logic versus religion, this experiment was a success in the way that only one of twenty left the people who they saw were in need of help.
